Rajkumar Das, Kolkata; 12 May, 2023: A week of fun activities that called for some serious effort and showcased exceptional skills of the Woodlands Hospital nurses, be it with the paintbrush or on the dance floor, culminated in a gala function to mark International Nurses’ Day on May 12, 2023 at the National Library auditorium. International Nurse’s Day is celebrated on May 12, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, English social reformer, statistician and founder of modern nursing.
The afternoon celebrations commenced with lamp lighting by the dignitaries present and a rendering of the Woodlands Anthem by senior nurses, following which posters of the Woodlands Nursing Day creative based on the theme for this year’s celebrations “Our Nurses Our Future” was also released.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Dr Rupali Basu, Managing Director & CEO, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital Ltd thanked the nurses wholeheartedly for the hard work they put in throughout the year. She also recounted her interactions with and learnings from nurses in the days of her housestaff-ship to roaring applause from the 500 plus nurses of the hospital and students of the Woodlands School of Nursing in the audience. “When I was doing my housestaff-ship at RG Kar Hospital in 1990-‘91, we had a lot of interaction with the nurses. In fact, the hospital used to be run the nurses and the freshly passed-out doctors,” Dr Basu said.
The cultural program put up by the nurses comprised Rabindrasangeet like 'Sajani Sajani Radhika Lo', soulful renditions of recitation, a dance medley put up nurses from the South Indian states which drew the loudest cheers and comic skit to end on a high in which a sadhu baba found solutions various problems of nurse from medicine errors to stress management through astute advice to go with his funny antics.
Prizes were also given away on Friday to the winners of the weeklong intra-department competitions at the hospital that included singing, dancing, recitation, poster designing, quiz and skit competition.
