The Eastern India Hematology Group successfully hosted the 3rd Annual Conference of Eastern India Blood Marrow Cellular Therapy (EIBMCT 2025). Held in Rajarhat, Kolkata, the conference featured various scientific sessions and workshops, attracting renowned hematologists and medical professionals from across the country.

•What is BMT?

BMT is Bone Marrow Transplant or Stem cell Transplant(SCT). Here we replace damaged bone marrow of patients suffering from different blood disorders, inherited bone marrow disorders or defective immune system with stem cells from healthy donors

 To consolidate Bone Marrow Transplant activities in the Eastern & North-

Eastern part of India

 To unite Haematologists, Haemato-oncologists, BMT Physicians, Transfusion Medicine Specialists, Nurses, Scientists, Medical & Laboratory technologists, and all other supporting staffs related to BMT activities to improve BMT practices in this part of India

 To share our knowledge, experiences, expertise for improvement of BMT in this part of our country

 To support BMT activities in new centers of Eastern & North-Eastern part of India by hand-holding

 Collaborating with national and international BMT organisations for training, guidance and collaborative activities

 Awareness generation in community and patients on BMT

 Communicating with government and corporate administrators to promote BMT in the Eastern & North-Eastern part of India


 Mobilisingfund for BMT patients

 Making BMT affordable and accessible to all, who need so that patients do not need to go out of this region for BMT

Summary of Press Release:

 BMT can cure many inherited and other life threatening blood disorders like Thalassaemia, Blood cancers, Aplastic Anaemia etc.

 The first BMT performed in this region is in NRS Medical College in the year 2009 followed by IHTM, Medical College Kolkata in the same year. Since then different centers started doing BMT gradually

 ElBMCT(Eastern India Blood Marrow & Cellular Therapy) meet organized by EHG(Eastern Haematology Group) is formed with representations of all 12 states in the Eastern and North-Eastern part of our country.

 This meet started in the year of 2023 to consolidate BMT and Cellular Therapy activities in this part of India, improving quality of BMT care, empowering and handholding new emerging centers and for awareness generation among people on BMT

 In the first meet (EIBMCT 2023), 13 centers from different states of this region participated, which increased to 22 centers in this year(ElBMCT 2025) by continuous effort, advocacy and handholding approach by EIBMCT.

 EIBMCT centers performed > 2000(Actual number 2354) BMT procedures with > 300 (378 in 2024) BMTs per year

 BMT & CAR-T therapy is available and accessible in the Eastern & NorthEastern part of India

 Now a days patients of this region who need BMT, do not need to go other


parts of India for doing BMT Long Live EIBMCT Long Live EHG.
